DOT Proposal Would Mandate Disclosure Of Bag Fees

DOT is proposing to require that ticket agents and airlines list fees for checked bags and the cost of carry-ons next to fares, Lauren reports for Pros. They’d also have to disclose possible discounts that are available. The department has asked for comments on whether airlines and ticket agents should also put information about service charges next to ticket prices.
Steve Shur, the president of the Travel Technology Association, a group with members like Expedia and TripAdvisor, said in a statement that DOT’s proposal “is a step in the right direction, but consumers would be best served if all critical ancillary fees were made both transparent and transactable.”
